Emergency Classifications
There are four classes of emergencies at a nuclear
power plant. Emergency officials and the news media may use
these terms:
- Notification of an Unusual Event:
You will not have to do
anything. This means that a minor problem has taken place
with no danger to the public. Federal, state and county
officials will be notified of the problem.
- Alert:
An Alert is also a minor problem which will not
require protection outside of plant property. Federal, state
and county officials will be advised of the Alert and will stand
by.
- Site Area Emergency:
You may have to take action. If
you do, the warning sirens will be activated. Turn to radio
station WBAP, 820 AM or KFJZ, 870 AM (en Espanol) for more
information.
- General Emergency:
You will most likely need to take
action. The warning sirens will be sounded. Turn to
radio station WBAP, 820 AM or KFJZ, 870 AM (en Espanol) for more
information.
